The United States stands to lose $45 billion if GPS were interrupted for 30 days. This latest statistic is from a newly published report entitled Economic Benefits of the Global Positioning System (GPS). The report, written by RTI International and sponsored by the National Institute of Standards of Technology, estimates a $45 billion dollar economic loss as the potential impact of a GPS outage over a 30-day period, as specified by the Department of Commerce and focused on 10 industries: electricity, finance, location-bases services, mining, maritime, oil and gas, surveying, telecommunications, telematics, and agriculture.
U.S. government officials are becoming increasingly aware of the threats to GPS and how a successful attack on that technology would impact national critical infrastructure as well as commercial infrastructure.
At Satelles, we are passionate about defending the world from such attacks. We are proud to be delivering solutions that solve this problem today.
