STL is LEO PNT
STL technology for 5G Networks
LEO PNT Technology
Signals 1000X Stronger Than GPS
STL technology provides 5G networks with reliable and secure timing synchronization. STL signals come from low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites that are just 485 miles away in space. This proximity makes STL signals 1000X stronger than GPS and GNSS signals.
Since STL signals are so powerful, they penetrate places where GPS and GNSS can’t reach—like urban canyons.
An alternative timing source from low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites can protect your network—while helping you deliver the 5G service your customers expect.
And you don’t need to wait for someone to develop a LEO PNT solution. STL technology is available now.

Satelles’ STL technology is the only LEO PNT service on the market. Since 2016, wireless carriers have relied on it to make their networks more resilient. With STL, you can seamlessly deliver 5G services to every device on your network—even in the most challenging environment.
STL is a strong, continuous LEO PNT signal that provides timing synchronization services to 5G networks everywhere—including urban and rural locations.
You can use STL technology as a standalone timing synchronization service or as a backup to GPS/GNSS. Simply place your STL and GPS receivers next to each other in RAN equipment. If you lose your GPS signal, your timing will seamlessly fail over to STL. You can also make STL your primary timing source and use GPS for backup.
STL signals are 1000X stronger than GPS and GNSS signals—making them difficult to jam and manipulate. The STL technology uses complex beam patterns from LEO satellites and cryptographic security to provide your network with multiple layers of protection.
STL offers the advantage of utilizing a small indoor antenna to deliver timing signals that penetrate most structures, including buildings with low-emissivity (Low-E) windows or metal and concrete siding and roofing. This means that in-building wireless installations that leverage STL can maintain synchronous timing without the need for an outdoor GNSS antenna.
STL antennas can also be installed outdoors similar to GPS/GNSS antennas.
Satelles partners with solution providers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that engineer user equipment (UE) incorporating STL technology. You can bundle STL technology with other equipment or purchase it separately. Either way, STL is far less expensive than many alternatives to GPS timing synchronization, such as time over fiber or beacons.
Expert Findings
Government authorities in the U.S. and Europe—including The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)—have tested STL. They confirmed that STL meets 5G timing accuracy specifications, provides signals indoors, and offers resilience in the event of a GPS/GNSS outage. See our expert findings.
